American Railway Engineering and Maintenance of Way Association, The Pennsylvania State University Student Chapter of Altoona

The AREMA Student Chapter of Penn State Altoona is dedicated to hosting Penn State Altoona students from a variety of degree backgrounds who possess an interest in the railroad industry. Throughout the academic year, our student chapter members have many opportunities to advance their academic curiosity, participate in networking opportunities, engage with well-seasoned railroad representatives, and participate in various outings and projects. As a chapter of a national organization, our students connect with other students from all over the country and have opportunities to participate in conferences hosted or sponsored by the organization.

BAJA SAE is an intercollegiate design competition. It consists of regional competitions that simulate real-world engineering design. Students are asked to build an off-road vehicle that will survive rough terrain and occasionally water. In addition to the racing events, competitions also include Shark Tank-esque sales presentations and proof of design presentations. Students of all majors are welcomed, and in many cases needed.
